The National Injuries Database is a unique national resource for police forces and forensic practitioners. The NID team can assist major crime investigations by:
- analysing weapons and wounds on both live and deceased victims for potential causation using the NID;
- providing evidence-based case examples for forensic medical issues including fire deaths, head injuries, firearm injuries, etc;
- facilitating forensic medical experts to provide expert opinions;
- advising on forensic medical issues through research, using a network of external forensic experts and academia;
- advising on good practice for the imaging of wounds, alternative light sourcing, image overlay and court presentations.
